VAT made easy

Get answers to the most frequently asked questions about using Amazon for e-commerce.
What is Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA)?
Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) is a service in which Amazon is responsible for storing, packaging and shipping your products, as well as managing customer service and returns.
When you sign up to FBA, you'll first need to package and ship your products in bulk to one of our fulfilment centres.
FBA also has special programmes to suit your business depending on the specific type of product, such as FBA Small and Light, Pan-European FBA, FBA Subscribe and Save, Multi-Channel Fulfilment and FBA Heavy and Bulky.
How much does FBA cost per item?
The fees vary, depending on the Amazon Fulfilment services that you choose:
1. Fulfilment fees are charged per unit sold, including packaging, shipping, handling, customer service and returns.
2. Monthly inventory-based charges at FBA fulfilment centres.

Amazon's estimating tools, such as the Revenue Calculator, the Fee Review Report and Manage Your Inventory will help you estimate your FBA fees.
How to sell using Fulfilment by Amazon?
  • A business email address or an Amazon customer account
  • A credit card that can be charged (international credit cards are also accepted)
  • A valid passport or national identity document (verification of identity protects sellers and customers)
  • Company registration details (with VAT number if possible)
  • A valid phone number
  • A bank account where Amazon can send you the proceeds from your sales
Then get ready to create your product list, add products to your Amazon catalogue and determine your FBA inventory.

Then, send your products to an Amazon Fulfilment Centre, following Amazon's packaging guidelines and shipping and routing requirements.
What can you sell with Fulfilment by Amazon?
What you can sell on Fulfilment by Amazon depends on the brand, product and category. Some products are open to all sellers, while others may require a professional seller account.
See the list of restricted products and products that are not eligible for FBA. To sell branded products protected by copyrights, patents or trademarks, you must be the business owner or an authorised reseller. To sell refurbished or second-hand items, you must meet the requirements that allow you to sell on Amazon Renewed.
What is "fulfilment"?
The entire process of receiving, storing, collecting, packaging and then shipping orders to customers, including returns or exchanges, is called fulfilment.
To place an order, you can choose Internal Fulfilment, Third-Party Fulfilment, Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) or Multi-Channel Fulfilment.
What's the difference between FBA and FBM?
FBA is Fulfilment by Amazon and FBM is Fulfilment by Merchant. With FBA, Amazon handles the entire fulfilment process for you. With FBM, the merchant (you) is responsible for storing, packaging, shipping and delivering products to customers.
Are all major orders fulfilled by Amazon?
No, Amazon is not responsible for the fulfilment of all Prime orders.

For items that don't suit Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), such as those that don't sell quickly or those where demand is difficult to predict, there is FBA and Seller Fulfilled Prime or SFP. This is a programme that is available to Amazon Prime members, allowing them to ship orders directly from their warehouse.
What is Fulfilment by Amazon’s excess inventory management?
The Manage excess inventory tool from FBA helps you track listings that have excess inventory and provides you with information to take appropriate action, as well as suggestions for improving inventory performance. It helps you assess product demand and cost, seller contributions and price elasticity, in addition to identifying problems that may be affecting your product sales and offering you options for selling your inventory.
What is the FBA direct sell-through rate?
The FBA sell-through rate is the number of units sold and delivered in the last 90 days divided by the average number of units in stock. The average number of units in stock is obtained by taking snapshots of inventory levels on the specific day in question, as well as 30, 60 and 90 days earlier.
The inventory report section in Seller Central offers you recommendations for improving your sell-through rate.
What is FBA's abandoned inventory percentage?
An ad can be inactive if it wasn't created correctly in the first place or if it's blocked. If this happens, the product starts to accrue the storage fee cost, but it's not available for sale because the ad isn't active.

Your performance is measured by the percentage of your FBA inventory units that cannot be purchased on Amazon at this time. This is called "stranded inventory percentage".

The other metric you should consider is the number of inactive units, which indicates the total number of units without an active offer, and the Fix ads button, which lists the SKU units without an active offer. This can be sorted through Fix stranded inventory.
What is Fulfilment by Amazon's restock tool?
The FBA Restock inventory tool helps you keep track of how many items you have in stock in order to meet customer demand, suggesting which products to replace, how many units to order and when to ship them.
This intelligent optimisation tool helps you predict when you should replace your items in stock, taking into account their variable costs, expected revenues and future demands. Recommendations allow you to get the best return on your inventory investment by maintaining the right amount of stock.
What is Fulfilment by Amazon's excess inventory percentage?
The excess inventory percentage is the percentage of your FBA inventory units that are in excess or were delivered more than 90 days ago.

Surplus inventory or aging inventory has a negative impact on the Inventory Performance Index, or IPI, which is a way of measuring the performance of your inventory over time.

Your IPI score checks how you manage your FBA inventory. Your performance dashboard helps you find ways to increase sales, reduce costs and track key performance metrics.
What is Fulfilment by Amazon's in-stock rate?
The inventory index tracks the degree of success in maintaining stocks of the most popular products.
This represents only FBA products that have had sales in the past 60 days. It doesn't take into account unsold items or products that the seller is responsible for fulfilling (that is, the products that you store, package and ship).

In Seller Central, this metric is displayed in the inventory panel and is updated daily. A good inventory percentage is considered to be between 90–100%.
What is a Fulfilment by Amazon seller?
An Amazon FBA seller is any e-commerce business that sells products through an Amazon store and is enrolled in the Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) programme.
For FBA sellers, Amazon is responsible for logistics and operations, while FBA sellers are responsible for selecting their products, shipping their inventory to FBA fulfilment centres and ensuring that their inventory is always up to date.
