FAQs

Get answers to the most frequently asked questions about using Amazon for e-commerce.
What is Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA)?
Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) is a service in which Amazon is responsible for storing, packaging and shipping your products, as well as managing customer service and returns.
When you sign up for Fulfilment by Amazon, you will first need to package and ship your products in bulk to one of our fulfilment centres.
FBA also has special programmes for specific types of products that fit your business, such as Low-price FBA Rates, Pan-European Fulfilment by Amazon, Fulfilment by Amazon Subscribe & Save, Multichannel Fulfilment and Fulfilment by Amazon for heavy and bulky shipments.
How much does FBA cost per item?
There are different fees depending on the Fulfilment by Amazon services you choose:
1. Fulfilment fees are charged per unit sold, including packaging, shipping, handling, customer service and returns.
2. Monthly inventory charges based on your inventory at Amazon Fulfilment Centres.

Amazon estimation tools, such as the Revenue Calculator, the Fee Review Report and Inventory Management will help you to estimate your Fulfilment by Amazon fees.
How to sell using Fulfilment by Amazon?
  • A business email address or an Amazon customer account
  • A credit card that can be charged (international credit cards are also accepted)
  • A valid passport or national identity document (verification of identity protects sellers and customers)
  • Company registration details (with VAT number if possible)
  • A valid phone number
  • A bank account where Amazon can send you the proceeds from your sales
Once you have this, get ready to create your product list, add products to your Amazon catalogue and set your Fulfilment by Amazon inventory.

Then, send your products to an Amazon Fulfilment Centre, following Amazon’s packaging guidelines and shipping and delivery requirements.
What can you sell with Fulfilment by Amazon?
What you can sell with Fulfilment by Amazon depends on the brand, product and category. Some products are open to all sellers, while others may require a professional seller account.
See the list of excluded products and products not eligible for Fulfilment by Amazon. To sell branded products protected by copyrights, patents or trademarks, you must be the business owner or an authorised reseller. To sell refurbished or second-hand items, you must meet the requirements that allow you to sell on Amazon Renewed.
What is fulfilment?
The entire process of receiving, storing, collecting, packaging and then shipping orders to customers, including returns or exchanges, is known as fulfilment.
To process an order, you can choose Internal Fulfilment, Third-Party Fulfilment, Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) or Multichannel Fulfilment.
What's the difference between FBA and FBM?
FBA is Fulfilment by Amazon and FBM is Fulfilment by Merchants. With FBA, Amazon handles the entire fulfilment process for you. With FBM, the merchant (you) is responsible for storing, packaging, shipping and delivering products to customers.
Are all major orders fulfilled by Amazon?
No, Amazon does not fulfil all Prime orders.

For items that are not suitable for Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), such as those that don't sell quickly or those for which demand is difficult to predict, there are Fulfilment by Amazon and the Seller Fulfilled Prime service (SFP). This is a programme that is available to Amazon Prime members, allowing them to ship orders directly from their warehouse.
What is Fulfilment by Amazon’s excess inventory management?
The Manage excess inventory tool from FBA helps you track listings that have excess inventory and provides you with information to take appropriate action, as well as suggestions for improving inventory performance. It helps you assess product demand and cost, seller contributions and price elasticity, in addition to identifying problems that may be affecting your product sales and offering you options for selling your inventory.
What is the FBA direct sell-through rate?
The FBA sell-through rate is the number of units sold and delivered in the last 90 days divided by the average number of units in stock. The average number of units in stock is obtained by taking snapshots of the inventory levels on the specific day in question, as well as 30, 60 and 90 days in advance.
The Inventory Status Management Report section in Seller Central shows you recommendations for improving your sales rate.
What is FBA's abandoned inventory percentage?
An ad can be inactive if it wasn't created correctly in the first place or if it's blocked. If this happens, the storage cost begins to accrue, but it's not available for sale because the ad isn't active.

Your performance is measured by the percentage of your FBA inventory units that cannot be purchased on Amazon at this time. This is known as your stranded inventory percentage.

The other metric you should consider is the number of inactive units, which indicates the total number of units without an active offer, and the Fix ads button, which lists the SKU units without an active offer. This can be arranged using the Fix stranded inventory option.
What is Fulfilment by Amazon's restock tool?
The Fulfilment by Amazon Restock tool helps you keep track of how many items you have in stock in order to meet customer demand, suggesting which products to replace, how many units to order and when to ship them.
This intelligent optimisation tool helps you predict when you should restock, taking into account the variable costs of your items, expected revenues and future demand. Recommendations allow you to get the best return on your inventory investment by maintaining the right amount of stock.
What is Fulfilment by Amazon's excess inventory percentage?
The excess inventory percentage is the percentage of your Fulfilment by Amazon inventory units that are in surplus or that were supplied more than 90 days ago.

Excess inventory or aging inventory has a negative impact on the Inventory Performance Index, or IPI, which is a way of measuring the performance of your inventory over time.

Your IPI score checks how you manage your Fulfilment by Amazon inventory. Your performance dashboard helps you find ways to increase sales, reduce costs and track key performance metrics.
What is Fulfilment by Amazon's in-stock rate?
The in-stock index tracks the level of success in maintaining stocks of the most popular products.
It shows only Fulfilment by Amazon products that have been sold in the past 60 days. It does not take into account unsold items or products that the seller is responsible for fulfilling (i.e. products that you store, package and ship).

In Seller Central, this metric is displayed on the inventory dashboard and is updated daily. A good inventory percentage is considered to be between 90% and 100%.
What is a Fulfilment by Amazon seller?
A FBA seller is any e-commerce business that sells products through an Amazon store and is registered with the Fulfilment by Amazon programme (FBA).
For Fulfilment by Amazon sellers, Amazon takes responsibility for the logistics and operations, while the sellers are responsible for selecting their products, sending their inventory to the Amazon Fulfilment Centres and ensuring that the inventory is always up to date.
