How to plan your sales strategy

Before you launch, having a well-defined strategy is key. You don't need an MBA to get started, but you do need a solid foundation:

1

Define your target audience
Is your product an ideal choice for gamers, remote workers or students? The more specific you are, the better your marketing and positioning decisions will be.

2

Research your competitors
Check out the highest-rated headphones on Amazon Spain. What do customers highlight? What criticisms do you keep seeing? This will give you clues about what to do differently or better.

3

Calculate your margins
This includes all costs: manufacturing, shipping, Amazon fees, VAT, returns and advertising. Use the FBA calculator to get a realistic estimate.

4

Build your brand
The packaging, the name, the images and your content must convey professionalism. Consider investing in A+ content and a branded store within Amazon.

Who can sell headphones on Amazon?

The Consumer Electronics category on Amazon Spain does not require prior approval. This means you can get started quickly, as long as you comply with quality and legal standards.

There are two ways to sell:

As a brand owner (white labelling or private labelling)

You sell your own headphones, made under your brand.

As an authorised reseller

You sell products from other manufacturers, provided that you have the legal permission to do so.
If you choose private labelling, consider registering your brand with the Amazon Brand Registry. This offers you key benefits: protection against impersonation, access to A+ content and the ability to create your own store within Amazon.

How to set up your seller account

To get started, go to Amazon Seller Central and select "Register as a Seller". You'll need to provide:

Available selling plans

Amazon offers two selling plans:

Individual plan

€0.99/unit. No monthly fee.

Professional plan

€39/month (excluding VAT). No cost per unit.
Both plans have referral fees. In the Electronics category, 7% is applied to each sale. The Professional plan allows you to upload products in bulk and access advanced advertising tools.

How to create your product listings

Creating a good listing is essential to attract customers. Each product requires a valid GTIN (EAN or UPC) that you can purchase through GS1 Spain. You can also apply for a GTIN exemption if your product doesn't require one.
How to list your headphones
  • Match an existing ASIN: If the product already exists on Amazon.
  • Creating a new product listing: Ideal for private label products.
What should your listing include?
  • A clear and descriptive title (brand + model + main purpose)
  • Five bullet points explaining the key benefits
  • A detailed and persuasive description
  • At least five high-resolution images (minimum 1000x1000 px)
  • Relevant keywords in the backend fields
A well-built listing improves your ranking in search results and generates more conversions.

Understanding fees and tax compliance

Selling on Amazon is not free and it's vital to understand these costs from the outset. Common fees:
  • Referral fee: 7% on Electronics
  • FBA fees: Dependent on the size, weight and quantity of orders
  • Monthly subscription (Professional plan): €39 (excl. VAT)
What about VAT?
Since 2024, Amazon collects and remits VAT automatically, even if you are not registered as self-employed or as a company. However, if you sell to customers in other EU countries, you'll need to register in the OSS (One-Stop Shop) system or in the destination countries.

What are your fulfilment options?
You have three shipping options:
1. FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon)
  • Amazon stores, packages and ships your products
  • Prime eligibility
  • Returns and customer service management
  • Ideal for scaling your business quickly
2. FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant)
  • You store and ship your products
  • This requires more work but gives you more control
  • Better if you have your own fulfilment infrastructure
3. MCF (Multi-Channel Fulfilment)
  • You use your FBA inventory for sales on other platforms (e.g. Shopify, eBay)
Tip: Use the FBA calculator to compare costs before deciding.

An optimised listing is not enough. You need visibility.
